Mobile Van Branding in Bengaluru
Bengaluru (ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು), also searched as Bangalore. Also known as jaheeraatu (ಜಾಹೀರಾತು) van advertising, canter branding, LED video van & mobile hoarding
Bengaluru at a Glance: City Intelligence Snapshot
Bengaluru is India's third-largest city and, by a wide margin, its most heavily regulated outdoor-advertising market. Here are the signals that matter to a van campaign:
| Signal | What it means for van advertising in Bengaluru |
|---|---|
| Population 8,443,675 (city, Census 2011); 8,520,435 urban agglomeration | A true metro audience. The metropolitan figure is now modelled at around 14.4 million for 2025, an estimate rather than a count |
| Economic weight | About 43.65% of Karnataka's economy; metro GDP around US$359.9 bn (PPP, 2023). Advertiser budgets here are national-scale |
| Anchor industries | IT and ITeS (~3.5 million employees), ~875 Global Capability Centres, startups, biotech, aerospace, defence and space |
| Governing authority | Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), created by the Greater Bengaluru Governance Act, 2024, superseding BBMP. A draft notification of 19 July 2025 splits the city into five corporations: Central, South, East, West and North |
| Tech clusters | Outer Ring Road corridor, Whitefield / ITPL, Electronic City, Manyata, CV Raman Nagar |
| Language | Kannada is a 42.1% plurality, not a majority; Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, Hindi and Malayalam all have large speaker bases; English dominates white-collar business. 60% of every commercial signboard must be Kannada |
| Vehicle series | KA-01, KA-02, KA-03, KA-04, KA-05, plus KA-41, KA-50, KA-51 and others; the plates you will see on our Bengaluru vans |
| Elevation / climate | Around 920 m on the Deccan plateau, giving one of the most equable climates of any major Indian city and a near year-round running season |
A city of many languages that mandates one on its signboards (Census 2011 mother tongue)
- Kannada ~42%: official state language, a plurality
- Tamil ~16%: 1.39 m speakers
- Telugu ~14%: 1.17 m speakers
- Urdu ~13%: 1.10 m speakers
- Others ~15%: Hindi, Malayalam, Marathi and more
What Is Mobile Van Branding, and Why It Works in Bengaluru
- The medium: a moving billboard (a T-shape van, L-shape van, LED van or custom canter) wrapped with your creative and routed through the streets where your buyers already are, roughly 8 hours and 40 km a day.
- Why Bengaluru specifically: fixed hoardings were removed citywide in 2018 and only re-legalised on 17 July 2025, under an auction-and-tender regime with a 175 m spacing rule and a ban on any advertising on roads narrower than 18 m. A van is subject to none of those constraints, and it reaches the sub-18 m streets where no hoarding may lawfully stand.
- Chronic congestion is an asset: long dwell times on the ORR, Whitefield and Electronic City stretches mean a wrapped panel sits in front of the same commuter for minutes, not seconds.
- Reach: an estimated 30,000-70,000 impressions per van per day (an industry figure; we report actual routed reach, not a promise).
- Who you hit: GCC and IT employees at shift change, startup and D2C audiences in Koramangala and Indiranagar, retail crowds on MG Road, Brigade Road and Church Street, and airport-approach traffic.
- Formats we run: T-shape, L-shape, LED and fully custom builds, matched to your budget and campaign type.
Bengaluru's Business Ecosystem: Who Buys Advertising Here
- India's IT capital: the Silicon Valley of India contributes about 43.65% of Karnataka's economy, employs roughly 3.5 million people in IT and ITeS, and hosts about 875 Global Capability Centres as of 2025, the largest such concentration in the world.
- Tech real estate: Electronic City, Whitefield / ITPL, the Outer Ring Road corridor (Embassy Tech Village, Bagmane, Cessna) and Manyata Tech Park are the four gravity wells of daily commuter traffic.
- Startup ecosystem: ranked #14 globally in the Global Startup Ecosystem Report 2025, up seven places, with roughly 32 unicorns produced across Bengaluru and Karnataka between 2020 and 2024.
- Biotech, aerospace and defence: India's biotech capital, plus a national aerospace, defence and space cluster around HAL, ISRO, DRDO and BEL.
- Education, healthcare and retail: IISc and IIM-Bangalore anchor a credential-hungry young population; major hospital groups compete citywide; organised retail runs from UB City, Orion and Phoenix malls to the MG Road high-street core.

Marketing Potential: Who Advertises Most in Bengaluru
- Demand level: very high. This is one of India's most valuable advertising markets per capita, with an affluent, young, English-literate consumer base and the country's densest concentration of technology employment.
- Cost edge: a wrapped van carries one of the lowest costs per thousand impressions in outdoor media, and unlike a hoarding it does not require winning an auction, holding a five-year licence or finding an 18 m road.
- A distinctive category: employer branding. With around 875 GCCs competing for the same engineers, recruitment creative at tech-park gates is a category that barely exists in other Indian cities.

Transit Ecosystem: The Roads Your Van Will Use
Daily footfall generators a van route can tap
| Node | Why it matters for routing |
|---|---|
| Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) | India's third busiest, with roughly 44.5 million passengers in FY2024-25 and Terminal 2 operational; the approach road carries a consistently affluent audience |
| Namma Metro catchments | Purple Line (Whitefield to Challaghatta), Green Line (Madavara to Silk Institute) and the Yellow Line (RV Road to Bommasandra via Electronic City, opened 2025); station exits concentrate pedestrians at fixed hours |
| Outer Ring Road corridor | The GCC and IT spine. Slow peak-hour movement gives the longest dwell exposure of any route in the city |
| Rail terminals | KSR Bengaluru City Junction (Majestic), Yesvantpur, Bengaluru Cantonment and SMVT Bengaluru at Baiyappanahalli |
| National highways | NH-44 north to south, NH-48 towards Chennai and Mumbai, NH-75 towards Mangaluru and NH-275 on the Mysuru Expressway |
| Roads narrower than 18 m | Fixed hoardings are prohibited outright on these streets, so a van is the only lawful outdoor option across large parts of Koramangala, Indiranagar and HSR |
Extra-dwell hotspots: ORR junctions at Marathahalli and Bellandur, the Electronic City and Whitefield tech-park gates at shift change, Silk Board, and the MG Road, Brigade Road and Church Street evening loop are ideal slow-down and, where permitted, short-park points.
Mobile Van Branding Cost in Bengaluru & Planning
Rates updated: July 2026. Final quotes depend on van type, route, creative production and duration. GST on advertising is 18%.
| Format | Indicative Bengaluru rate | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Standard wrapped van | from ₹2,200 / van / day | Sustained brand presence, retail, real estate, D2C |
| LED / video van | Higher tier (varies by build) | Launches and activations, subject to the LED content check below |
| Kannada-first creative production | One-time, quoted with the plan | All formats; at least 60% Kannada, upper half of the panel |
| Print, mount & fabrication | One-time, added to campaign | All formats, quoted with the plan |
| Fixed hoarding (for comparison) | Auction and tender only via e-procurement; not a rate-card market. Winning bidders lodge five months' fee as security | Long-cycle anchor presence, if you can wait for a tender window |
- Daily coverage: around 8 hours and around 40 km per van.
- Recommended minimum: 2 vans for 7-10 days for a locality or tech-corridor launch; 4-6 vans for a citywide campaign. Shorter runs under-deliver on frequency.
- Discounts: bulk and monthly bookings carry volume pricing; fabrication and creative are one-time.
- Paperwork we complete: RTO approval or NOC under Section 52 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, the registration certificate updated to reflect the wrap, and the insurer notified.
- The LED-in-motion grey area, stated plainly: the 2024 bye-laws prohibit moving video and rapidly flashing LED content on driver-distraction grounds. That rule was written for static hoardings, and whether it extends to a mobile LED van in motion is unsettled. We verify with the GBA advertisement wing and the Traffic Police before running motion content.
- No vehicle advertising without paperwork: we will not put a commercial wrap on the road without Section 52 approval, an updated RC and insurer notification.
- Creative must be Kannada-compliant: at least 60% Kannada in the upper half of the panel. We do not run non-compliant artwork.
- Restricted areas: aerospace, defence and airbase perimeters, plus routes closed by the GBA or Traffic Police during events, VIP movement or enforcement drives.
- Anti-defacement law still applies: the Karnataka Open Places (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act, 1981 remains in force. No posters, no pasting, no bills.
Area-Wise Strategy: Where to Run in Bengaluru
Bengaluru is several distinct markets stitched together, and the right route depends entirely on your buyer:
| Zone / area | Audience & best time | Industries it suits |
|---|---|---|
| Outer Ring Road corridor (Marathahalli, Bellandur) | GCC and IT employees; commute and shift hours | Employer branding, quick-commerce, BFSI, real estate |
| Whitefield / ITPL | Tech workforce plus a large residential catchment; weekday peaks | Real estate, edtech, healthcare, retail |
| Electronic City | Captive tech workforce along the Yellow Line; morning and evening | Recruitment, automotive, FMCG, financial services |
| Koramangala, Indiranagar & HSR | Startup, F&B and nightlife density; evening and weekend | D2C, quick-commerce, hospitality, gaming, consumer apps |
| MG Road, Brigade Road, Church Street | Retail and nightlife core; all-day, peak evening | Retail, apparel, entertainment, telecom |
| Manyata & the north / airport approach | Tech commuters and affluent travellers; commute hours | Premium retail, real estate, BFSI, hospitality |
| Jayanagar, Basavanagudi & Malleswaram | Established family neighbourhoods; morning and weekend | Jewellery, education, healthcare, durables |
Who Uses Van Branding in Bengaluru
- Quick-commerce, D2C and e-commerce marketers, the largest spenders in the city. They want dense, repeated exposure across Koramangala, Indiranagar, HSR and the ORR belt, including the sub-18 m streets where no hoarding may lawfully stand.
- GCC and tech employer-branding marketers, a persona almost unique to Bengaluru. Recruitment and employer-brand presence at ORR, Whitefield, Electronic City and Manyata gates at shift and commute hours, plus metro-station catchments.
- Real-estate, BFSI, automotive and FMCG marketers with national budgets who want citywide presence without waiting for a fixed-media tender cycle.
- Compliance-anxious brands: advertisers burned by the 2018 teardown, unsure whether hoardings are legal in 2026, or unclear what the 60% Kannada rule means for their artwork. For them the deliverable is a written compliance position, and in this city that is the product.
Buying Behaviour: How Bengaluru Shops and Spends
- Digitally native: an affluent, young, English-literate base that discovers online and buys fast. Outdoor works best here as a frequency and recall layer on top of digital.
- Neighbourhood-led: spend patterns differ sharply between the startup belt, the tech corridors and the older Jayanagar and Malleswaram markets. Zone-matched routing beats citywide creative.
- Language matters commercially, not just legally: Kannada is a 42.1% plurality alongside large Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, Hindi and Malayalam populations. Kannada-first artwork is both the law and a signal of local respect.
- Year-round demand: the equable plateau climate means no dead season. Quick-commerce, real estate and healthcare buy continuously; recruitment spikes with hiring cycles; retail concentrates around festivals.

Why Brands Choose Us for Bengaluru
- We have read the bye-laws: licence terms, 175 m spacing, the 18 m road-width floor, the PVC ban, the 11 pm curfew and the QR-approval regime. We can tell you which apply to your campaign and which do not.
- Kannada compliance built into production: at least 60% Kannada, upper half, in good typography, as standard.
- MV Act paperwork done properly: Section 52 approval, RC updated, insurer notified, local NOC where required. We show the documents.
- Candour about what is unsettled: we publish the LED-in-motion open question rather than paper over it.
- Local route knowledge: we plan by zone and buyer, from ORR dwell times at peak hour to Whitefield and Electronic City shift changes and the Koramangala evening loop.
- Own execution, not brokered: vans, wrapping and routing handled directly, so timelines and quality stay in our control.
- GST invoicing and daily proof: proper billing for corporate and agency buyers, plus GPS-tagged daily photos of your van on route with visible KA plates.
Campaign Experience in Bengaluru
Anonymised real results; named city-specific case studies are added as client permissions are secured.
- Quick-commerce launch, Koramangala and Indiranagar: a D2C brand ran vans across the sub-18 m residential grid where no hoarding may lawfully stand, with Kannada-first panels, and reported a clear lift in app installs across the target pincodes.
- GCC employer branding, ORR and Whitefield: a technology employer ran a recruitment message timed to tech-park shift changes across the ORR corridor, with GPS-tagged daily reporting against a defined gate list.
- Real-estate launch, north Bengaluru: a developer paired the Manyata belt with the airport approach for a multi-week run, using route reports to reallocate van hours towards the highest-response window.

Are hoardings legal in Bengaluru now?
Yes, since 17 July 2025. They were banned from August 2018, after a Karnataka High Court order and the BBMP 2018 bye-laws, until the BBMP Advertisement Bye-Laws, 2024 were notified under the Greater Bengaluru Governance Act. They are now licence-and-auction only, with 175 m spacing, no advertising on roads under 18 m, biodegradable material only, lights off after 11 pm and QR approval on every display.
Is LED van advertising legal in Bengaluru?
Vehicle advertising is legal and there is a large, active market in the city. Commercial wraps need RTO approval under Section 52 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, with the registration certificate updated and the insurer notified. One honest caveat: the 2024 bye-laws prohibit moving video and flashing LED on static hoardings, and whether that extends to a mobile LED van in motion is unsettled. We verify with the GBA advertisement wing and Traffic Police before running motion content.
What does mobile van branding cost in Bengaluru?
Standard wrapped vans start at ₹2,200 per van per day, with print, mounting, fabrication and Kannada-first creative production added as one-time costs. LED and video vans are a higher tier depending on the build. GST on advertising is 18%. For an exact figure, share your area and dates through our contact page.
Is BBMP still the authority for advertising permissions?
No. The Greater Bengaluru Governance Act, 2024 abolished BBMP, and the Greater Bengaluru Authority became operational around September 2025, with the city being split into five corporations: Central, South, East, West and North. The name BBMP persists in common usage and even in the title of the 2024 bye-laws, so both terms remain in circulation.
What is the 60% Kannada rule and does it apply to my van?
Under the Kannada Language Comprehensive Development (Amendment) Act, in force from 26 February 2024, commercial name boards must carry at least 60% Kannada content in the upper half of the board. The Karnataka High Court stayed the sealing of non-compliant premises, but the rule itself stands and is enforced. We design Kannada-first for every Bengaluru campaign.
Why choose a van over a hoarding in Bengaluru?
Because fixed hoardings are now auction-allocated, must be 175 m apart, cannot stand on roads narrower than 18 m, cannot use PVC or plastic flex, must switch off after 11 pm and need a QR-coded approval. A van is subject to none of those, and it reaches the sub-18 m streets where no hoarding may lawfully stand.
Which zones in Bengaluru are best for van branding?
It depends on your buyer: the Outer Ring Road corridor, Whitefield and Electronic City for tech and GCC audiences, Koramangala, Indiranagar and HSR for D2C and quick-commerce, MG Road, Brigade Road and Church Street for retail, and the Manyata belt with the airport approach for premium and real-estate campaigns.
Can you buy metro or bus media for us as well?
Those are separate concessions. BMRCL tendered roughly 4,956 metro pillars and portals on a twelve-year term, and station media across 67 stations sits with a separate nine-year concession. BMTC bus branding is also exclusively concessioned. We plan van routes around that inventory rather than pretending to own it.
How fast can a campaign go live in Bengaluru?
Once artwork is approved and Kannada compliance is confirmed, a standard wrap can be on the road within a few days. Section 52 paperwork, RC updates and any route clearances are confirmed at booking, so we give you a realistic date rather than an optimistic one.
Can one campaign cover Bengaluru and nearby Karnataka cities?
Yes. We run combined routes across Karnataka, pairing Bengaluru with Mysuru, Mangaluru, Hubballi-Dharwad, Tumakuru, Ramanagara or Kolar under one plan and one report.
